Tonight saw the best exchange I can remember on NESN since the Rem-Dawg went on the DL. I know someone will probably have the video of this posted, probably as we speak. But I'm still rockin' the Stone Age over here, so I'll take care of the transcript. Just in case.
DENNIS ECKERSLEY: (After reading an ad for a local hospital that emphasizes the word "healthy", to DON ORSILLO) How do you stay so healthy? I was asking you a personal question earlier today, but the game was too close, but...you don't mind if I ask you a personal question?
DON ORSILLO: No, go ahead. You can ask me a personal question.
DE: Do you eat ice cream every day when we're here at home?
DO: Yes. Yes. I like the ice cream here at Fenway Park.
DE: I've been with you almost a couple months now--
DO: I enjoy it.
DE: --and when we're at home, you always seem to have that ice cream. Right? Not on the road, though.
DO: (laughing)
DE: Not on the road.
DO: ...Nnooo, I eat ice cream then, too. I -- I really like ice cream.
DE: (laughing) So do I.
(Jason Varitek lines a ball into left field.)
DO: (casually, almost an afterthought as he changes gears to call the play) It's a problem.
Lined into left field. It's a two-out base hit for Jason Varitek, on for the second time tonight.
(to Eck) Since we're asking personal questions, I have a question for you.
DE: Whaddya got?
DO: I was thinking today as I was driving around-- I went to the gym today, since we're talking about my ice cream-- and I was, uh, thinking about you, because the Bee Gees came on. And I thought, you know what? I betchya Eck--
DE: (crisis smiling) -- likes the Bee Gees, right, right, yeah.
DO: Likes the Bee Gees! And I have to know, were you a Bee Gees fan?
DE: (still crisis smiling) No. No.
DO: (surprised) You weren't!
DE: Well, that's a disco thing, right, that's '75.
DO: Yeah, kind of.
DE: Yeah, well, I listened to 'em a little bit, but it wasn't like I was (does a little dance) rockin' around to...to the Bee Gees.
DO: So you weren't a Bee Gees fan. I had to find that out. because, you know--
DE: That says everything , that says--
DO: -- I've been thinking about it all day. You've got a little Maurice Gibb thing going on, and you know...
DE: (pointing to his hair) With the moss?
DO: (cracking up) With the moss, you know?
Beat.
DE: You know, I just asked you if you eat ice cream or not, why do you have to drop a Bee Gees on me? Seriously.
DO: (cheerfully) Well, we got personal! You asked me a personal question, and I asked you a personal question.
DE: Okay. No, I didn't used to rock to them.
DO: No, not at all? Ah, alright, I thought maybe. I mean, you like tight stuff, I thought maybe, you know, you walk down the street in your--
DE: What do you mean, tight stuff? I don't get it.
DO: I mean clothes!
DE: Oh. Tight. Oh... the Bee Gees used to wear tight clothes?
DO: Well, yeah! You think about some of the video that they used to have, Maurice Gibb, walking down the street...
DE: I used to have tight jeans...
DO: Right!
DE: Yeah, I did, you're right.
DO: So you know, it was kinda your look, and, I thought maybe...ya know...
DE: Yeah. Yeah. I used to have tight jeans.
DO: (chuckling) Two outs. Jason Varitek at first base.
DE: Well, I'm not going to ask you any more personal questions.
It's times like this that I hope I never move out of NESN's broadcast range. And conveniently forget that the Sox are two runs three runs behind in the process of LOSING TO the friggin' Kansas City Royals.
#1) That graphic makes me want Dunkin Donuts.
#2) That exchange _is_ a classic. Love the Eck.
#3) The Eck will always be an A. :)

Wow. It's amazing how the Sox have both the best AND second best announce teams in all of baseball. That's fantastic.

MLB.TV. It's worth every dime.

@Louis Yeah, you're prob. right on that last point. But he's not broadcasting for the A's, is he? :)
@Bloggy, I was under the impression mlb.tv didn't show the NESN feed...

Nah, they show the NESN feed. You can pick which broadcast you watch now (home or away) on MLB.TV.
