For those of you who haven't yet heard the story, this is a pretty good summary.
If you feel about this the way I do, you can email the program director at WBCN, whose name is Dave Wellington, at dwellington@wbcn.com.
In case it's helpful, here's the message I sent him:
Apparently their incident with Mayor Menino years ago wasn't enough to convince WBCN management that putting Opie and Anthony back on the air in Boston was a bad idea. Now that they've earned the ire of every sports fan in the region with similar behavior, perhaps they'll reconsider. How totally embarrassing for the station that owns the broadcast rights to Patriots games. Doubly embarrassing? The fact that you could see this coming a mile away, and STILL WBCN gave these clowns a platform in this city.
I hope BCN will do the right thing this time around and get Opie and Anthony off the air in Boston, once and for all.We can't do anything about the hatred the nation at large is harboring for the Patriots or the nonstop bullshit from the Don Shulas of the world that tries to take away from what the team is accomplishing this season. But I'm of the belief that we damn sure do have a recourse when it surfaces in our own city, where Pats fans comprise the majority of the audience, especially when it happens on the Patriots' own "rock radio network."
I'll admit I'm pouring some of my frustration with Pats-hating in general into this, but you can't yell "Fire" in a crowded theater and then claim free speech. You can't be a broadcast personality in a city where a sports franchise is under incredible scrutiny, purposely report a libelous story, and then claim you intended humor. It's not a joke--just ridiculous irresponsibility for which there should be consequences.

take a joke

did you read the post? i know it was meant as a joke. what i'm saying is, it wasn't funny.

O & A are idiots; their stunts usually smack of desperation to be funny. I'm a Howard girl, myself.
Since I am not big on football, but do support the Pats because HELLO! I'm from Boston, I wasn't aware there was a lot of Pats hatred going around. Why? Is it from the cheating thing?
I read a lot of interviews with sports people (writers, former players, etc) and every single one of them said that unfortunately, the Pats got *caught.* Not a single person seemed to think it was something to tarnish their reputation for all of eternity or anything.
I don't know. I mean, look at the 80s and 90s era Pats-- they were a joke. And now, they are amazing. Is it jealousy? I really have no idea. Sorry to address this in your comments, Beth; I was just curious.

What about poor Pat Sajak?? O&A also said he lost all his teeth in a car crash but everyone has to dwell on the Patriots thing? The media in this country is a joke. Idiot Bloggers picked up on this story which then was reported by the MSM. If I want real news I'll listen to Howard 101!

so bloggers that turned on their radio and heard someone read an untrue news story as if it was fact, as they would read any other true news stories, are the idiots for following up on what they heard. interesting.

"so bloggers that turned on their radio and heard someone read an untrue news story as if it was fact, as they would read any other true news stories, are the idiots for following up on what they heard"
Yes. Not everything you hear on the radio is a news program.

right, but generally, when things on the radio ARE news programs, there are certain indicators. such as the way information is read and presented. not everything on tv is a news program either, but if you turn on the tube and there's a woman sitting there in a studio looking like a news anchor and she tells you something, are you going to stop and think, WAIT? COULD THIS BE A PARODY?
it's just ridiculous to defend this shit with "people should've known." people tune in at random all the time. people generally go on, you know, cues to figure out what's going on when they tune at random. cues that indicate when something's a radio bit or when something is the radio host reading news. rationalize it however you want, tell me i have no sense of humor because i didn't find this particular thing funny, but it was still a shitty, stupid thing to do and you're not going to convince me otherwise. sorry.

It's called "Make-up stuff Tuesday" and it's more entertaining than listening to any other radio program in the morning. Take a joke!
