One start clearly isn't enough to get a full assessment of what Schilling can do for the rest of the season. However, what I watched last night didn't exactly encourage me, as it seemed like more of the same from earlier this year. He looked very good at points, but he gave up lots of hits and hung too many splitters that got crushed (when Maicer Izturiz takes you deep you know it had to be a complete meatball pitch). He didn't help himself by forgetting to cover first on what would've been a routine DP either.

Of course, the Mathis double was also foul on the replay, so Schilling got jobbed on a critical call too. And I won't even get into that awful homeplate umpire and his ever changing strike zone and the way he ejected Manny out of the blue. Whoever that ump is, he's on my lead pipe list now.

yeah, i've heard more about the umpiring since writing this post. wondering if it's just something about anaheim (remember papi's gone after umps there twice).

An ugly-ish night, when we really needed and wanted something different. I adore Curt Schilling always, but I miss the Schilling of old, and at 40 myself, I get that maybe he'll never be the same again. Sigh
