Sunshine is good for your teeth

Day 77

Today's heartwarming spring training moments--

When I turned on the television, it was already the second inning (what can I say, never claimed to be in midseason form yet--and I spent much of today recovering from the brutal gauntlet of drunks I had to run last night getting home from Boston. In the span of about ten minutes on Beacon St. I nearly rear-ended another driver, was nearly hit in the rear myself, and had a stupid game of you-go-no-you-go with a drunken slob who was standing right in the middle of Kenmore Square).

On the screen when I got around to seeing if the ballgame was on this afternoon, in between shots of David Murphy at the plate were shots of Tito, gnawing away on sunflower seeds and looking into and yet somehow beyond the NESN camera.

"I think they're talking to Millar," Orsillo said, and then I noticed that the coaches on either side of Tito were doing the same things Tito was, including chewing, and sending silent facial communications to someone a little ways off.

All of them had on their faces a look of false horror, shaking their heads. Tito puffed out his cheeks and blew air through his mouth: phew. I can only imagine what kind of obscene gesture Millar was making in the opposite dugout.

And then Tito's face burst into a chipmunk-cheeked grin, and he and the other coaches dropped their front and guffawed.

"As usual, today, we heard Millar before we saw him," Orsillo said.

"I heard him getting offa 95," replied the Rem-Dawg.

A short time later, a NESN mic picked up a fan behind the on-deck circle heckling Millar. "Ya know Mill-ahh, I loved ya as a Red Sox but I'm not likin' this Orioles gig, ya know what I mean?" Millar said something back, but tragically, the microphones didn't pick up his response.

God, I love baseball.

P.S. That Blind Date pickup line bit with Remy and Orsillo? I can't even deal. Also, lengthy Q & A today over at Curt's place. I really love the stuff he's saying about Keith Foulke. And it's interesting watching him answer his critics.
