As evidenced by the traffic snarls and assorted pandemonium brought upon this city by today's weather, it never but never rains in California. People were panicking about the rain today, I'm not kidding.
And of course, the one day it rains in California was the day I had tickets to boo Barry Bonds see the Padres play the Giants. Ah, well. We did go to the park, though, just in case. Place is palatial; it reminds me more of Gillette Stadium than Fenway Park or any other baseball park I've ever been to. I took some pictures; not quite as exciting as DAVE ROBERTS rounding the bases, but they'll have to do.
I was really looking forward to standing up and completely embarrassing myself and everyone around me by cheering enthusiastically for Dave Roberts, Mark Bellhorn and Alan Embree, and hollering DOUGIE'S GOIN' DEEP! when I saw Mirabelli.
Maybe someday.

'Tis a shame, Petco's a great place to see a ballgame. Ah well.
It's quite funny when it rains in SoCal, people there tend to think the world's coming to an end when water falls from the sky...

Beth, sorry that you missed catching a game at Petco, but it's cosmic payback for a prior comment of yours:
"...the brand new Taj Mahal of a ballpark sits mostly empty most game nights."
Contrary to many people's opinions, the baseball fans here in San Diego strongly support the Padres. They drew over 35,000 per game last year, and over 37,000 the year before (out of 42,000 capacity). That's mostly full, not mostly empty.
Sorry about getting rained on while you were here. We do in fact get rain in Southern California, but the winter storms are usually over before April (which is why it was so unusual to have this rainout). Did you get a chance to see Petco from the Park at the Park (beyond the stands in left-center)? It's open to the public except immediately before and during games, and you can really get a good look at the field from there.
