I am blogging about this too over at Pesky's Pole. It looks like Foulke was in Alabama to visit a sports medicine clinic to have his mechanics checked out and/or adjusted. I miss Keith Foulke and I am growing tired of his evil twin, Cla Foulke.

I'd heard he had gone down to see Glenn Fleisig at ASMI — though it seems Fleisig and Andrews do similar work, and have published papers together. Gammons seemed to have some idea of why the media thought he had gone down to see Andrews. Who knows what the actual story is — though I have to say I kind of doubt Foulke flew all the way to Birmingham to eat at a barbeque joint. I can understand the desire to evade the question, though. Reportage on this stuff can be brutal.

In any event, Fleisig's career story is kind of neat: a mechanical engineer with a real love for the game trying to find a niche for his interests.

I have plenty of hope for Foulke, regardless. I've become rather fond of him, too, and if last season taught us anything it's not to give up on a player. I continue to be impressed by Francona's insistence — even in the face of the media agenda — on trusting the players and backing them up, not to mention seeming to guard and protect them like his cubs. That is certainly faith-inspiring. Not that one should ever expect anything less.
